Another 9 issues on Thursday

By: Ray Pellecchia
File Under: NYSE

Another 9 issues will join Phase III of the NYSE Hybrid Market on Thursday, Nov. 16, bringing our total to 215 active issues.

Here is the updated list, in .pdf and Excel formats.

Elsewhere in the news, as they say, somehow Hallmark has not caught up with this one and so it has escaped my attention until now, but today is World Usability Day. From the sponsoring organization's Web site:

"Why doesn't this work right? What am I supposed to do with this now?"

World Usability Day, November 14, 2006, is for everyone who's ever asked these questions. This Earth Day style event, focused on raising awareness and visibility of usability engineering and user centered design, is currently being organized by volunteers and local event coordinators from around the world. Whether a usability professional or just an enthusiastic (or frustrated) user, each participant is making a contribution to "making life easy".

World Usability Day 2006 promotes the value of usability engineering and user-centered design and the belief that every user has the responsibility to ask for things that work better. The Usability Professionals' Association is doing that by encouraging, organizing, and sponsoring 36 hours of activities at the local level around the globe, all occurring on November 14, 2006.

Not sure how they're going to fit 36 hours of activities into a 24-hour day, but hey, that would be a useful innovation in itself.

Thought my colleagues involved in building technology for the trading floor -- a user-focused process if there ever was one -- would appreciate the image on the poster above. Our users -- the professionals on the trading floor -- are involved in new tech iterations from the very beginning, including working with us in a lab that helps identify economies of keystrokes and other efficiencies of work.

So happy World Usability Day, everyone. Now go out and make yourself useful.
